Alcaraz has the last word against Tiafoe

Alcaraz, the defending champion and world number 3, came close to elimination on Friday in the third round of Wimbledon but he ended up beating the American Frances Tiafoe (29th) 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-2.

The 21-year-old Spaniard will face Frenchman Ugo Humbert (16th) or American Brandon Nakashima (65th) in an attempt to return to the quarter-finals. Tiafoe reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2022, the year he lost in the semi-finals at the US Open to Alcaraz, who would go on to win the first of his three Grand Slam titles to date. The American was two points away from achieving the break that would have allowed him to serve for the match at 5-4 in the fourth set.
