Young people from different regions of the country reported that they had to be hospitalized due to the inappropriate use of the drug Sildenafil, known as Viagra, a challenge from teenagers on the Tik-Tok social network.

The National Institute for Drug and Food Surveillance (Invima) turned on the alerts and called on young people, parents and citizens in general to be attentive to these cases that have occurred in different educational institutions, where Viagra is mixed with drinks (water, soda or juice).

“Among the potential risks that can be identified when taking this medication without medical supervision, is the slight and transient decrease in blood pressure, and spontaneous effects on vision, since cases of visual defects have been reported.”, explained Invima for the consumption of these medicines without the proper medical formulation can generate potential health risks.

In addition, the entity stated that Viagra is not allowed in people with cardiovascular diseases, nor is it indicated for those under 18 with sexual disorders.

The Invima pointed out that this medication should only be administered under medical prescription, warning that otherwise it can trigger a serious risk to health.

“This type of medication is not for recreational purposes”, indicated the entity.

The health authorities confirmed that to date the occurrence of this malpractice has been identified in Antioquia, Atlántico, Meta, Quindío, Cundinamarca and Norte de Santander.

The event was recorded at the Antonio Nariño educational institution, located in the Cantarito neighborhood. At least 20 students from that school had to be transferred to a care center, five of them due to a nervous shock they suffered when they saw the situation.

According to the first versions, minors would have consumed eight Viagra pills mixed with four liters of soda.

The students of the Antonio Nariño school arrived at the medical center with “nervousness, some with some sweating, some with vomiting, but above all that anxiety crisis. As time went by, more students were arriving and until one in the afternoon we attended more or less 20 students, between boys and girls, with a range of ages between 10 and 16 years old”, explained Leonardo Quiceno, manager of the Pío X hospital, quoted by Noticias Caracol.

At the San Bartolomé school in Cúcuta, 13 students had health problems, after mix the sexual enhancer with passion fruit juice.

For her part, the rector of the school, Astrid Leonor Álvarez, called on parents to teach young people how to use social networks correctly, so that they do not fall into this type of challenge that can compromise their Health.

“Due to the situation, the institution proceeded to activate the care route to resolve atypical behaviors that affect the good image of the institution. I urge parents to guide, accompany and monitor their children on the proper management and use of social networks”, he stated in the statement.

And he added that “the incident was dealt with immediately; therefore, the headquarters is operating in complete normality”, emphasizing that the students were attended to quickly and the classes on the educational campus continued without alterations.

The rector of the school indicated that the case has already been brought to the attention of the Police for Children and Adolescents, who will assume the situation and begin the investigation process.

Three boys and one girl between the ages of 12 and 15 were intoxicated in the Juan B. Padilla School of Juan de AcostaAtlántico, after they drank a soft drink at recess that had half a Viagra pill mixed in.

The drink was supplied to them by a group of classmates who decided to play a prank on them, as they had seen some viral challenges on social networks that they wanted to replicate at school.

“If they had added the entire pill and consumed the liquid, the side effects might have been a little worse. Even the mother of a child stated that her son had tachycardia”, expressed Iván Sánchez, Secretary of Health.

In this regard, the rector of the institution, Vanessa Beleños, stated that the minors involved in the alleged prank were suspended while the investigations into the case progress.

“My son told me> because they had proposed a sharing activity, they rotate the food and share the food. After a while he comes back and the boy writes to me and tells me that they gave him viagra in a soda”, indicated Johanna Herrera, mother of a minor.

The children immediately felt bad, they began to notify the teachers and their parents through calls.

According to the parents, the representatives of the school have not wanted to take responsibility for what happened, meanwhile the Health Secretary who had knowledge of the matter is in charge of the case, the children were taken to assistance centers.
