Alexander Albon gave insights on how F1 drivers can maintain friendships off course.
Many drivers on the grid have been racing together for several years, competing in the same junior category on their way to F1. As a result, some drivers have known each other for a long time.
Despite being fierce rivals on the track, some F1 drivers maintain friendships when not racing. Alex Albon admits that the nature of the rivalry has changed given that they are now in different positions on the grid in F1, but says the relationship remains almost the same.
Regarding how the rivalry evolved, “For me, it’s different now. I’m at Williams, Charles (Leclerc) is at Ferrari and wins the race, but Max (Verstappen) and Charles are kids. I don’t think it makes any difference, “Alexander Albon explained in Beyond The Grid.
“In the cart, more or less anyone can win. There are still equipments that are faster than others, but they are quite similar.”
“When heading to F1, it’s a little different because everyone is competitive, but in F1 everyone is on a different machine and that’s happening a bit.”
“But everyone is competitive. When you’re young, you might have a little more fangs and elbows. With a cart, you can obviously push people and nothing happens. not”
“On the other hand, in the race, you can change the front wing, and it’s a little more advanced, so it’s a little bit, but the competitiveness and willingness to win remain the same.”
Despite their competitiveness when racing each other, Alexander Albon says that many drivers have made strong friendships away from the circuit, which some observers see negatively. I feel strange.
“Most of us have been competing with each other since the age of 12, and we’ve always been,” said Alexander Albon.
“Most of us have been racing together for 12 to 13 years. Now, on a lot of trips, we may meet more than our families.”

Asked that it’s refreshing for drivers to be friends, Alexander Albon added, “I like it and I think we’re really friends.”
However, when asked if they were treated differently on the circuit, Alexander Albon said, “Yes, we do!”
“That’s the problem. We’re friends and we enjoy each other’s work. We love to make fun of and frustrate each other. When it comes to racing, everyone is self-centered.”
“If you put on your helmet, that friendship goes away, but you still have respect, and when you take off your helmet, you know you’re still friends again.”
“It’s not like a reality show on TV. Take off your helmet. You don’t unfollow on Instagram and end your relationship.”
“We’re still friends. When something happens on the track, there’s a little text exchange, like,’What was that?'” But we make up for it. We are old enough. ”
