The promotion race in the Challenge League continues to come to a head. Since Winterthur only draws against Thun on Friday, Schaffhausen is the new table leader thanks to a win against Kriens.
Winti coach Alex Frei and Thun coach Carlos Bernegger fought an exciting duel.

A sold-out stadium, a great atmosphere – everything was set up for a great evening of football on the Schützenwiese on Friday evening. Leader Winterthur welcomed fifth-placed Thun and could really celebrate early in the game.
With a real dream free kick, Roberto Alves overcame Thun goalie Nino Ziswiler in the tenth minute and put Winti in front early on. However, the lead didn’t last long, just seven pointer turns later, Nicola Hasler scored the equalizer for the guests with a solid low shot.
Winterthur sins in rows in the end
The Bernese Oberland then continued to press and promptly made it 2-1 in the 35th minute. Veteran Alexander Gerndt converted a cross from the side and was celebrated as a goal scorer.
In the second half, Winterthur tried to equalize and at times pushed Thun against a wall. In the end, however, Alex Frei’s team sinned in rows for a long time, but the equalizer came shortly before the end when Ramizi pushed the ball over the line from close range in the 94th minute.

It got really heated in the final phase, when emotions really boiled over and a pack formed. This was triggered by a scene when a Thuner grabbed a Winterthurer’s neck when the ball was long gone.
Since Schaffhausen cleared up bottom team Kriens 4-1 in the parallel game, Winterthur now has to hand over the lead in the Challenge League to Munotstadt and is now two points behind FCS. For Thun, the topic of promotion has probably finally been settled with the late goal in Winterthur.
Aarau also wins and advances to Barrage place
But not only FC Schaffhausen overtakes Winterthur, Aarau also overtakes Alex Frei’s team. Thanks to a 4-0 win over Yverdon, Stephan Keller’s men are now on the Barrage pitch and one point ahead of Winti. Aarau took the lead in the 36th minute. From the 67th minute they played themselves into a frenzy and increased to 4:0 within ten minutes.
