The Arizona Coyotes have made the move to terminate the contract of Alex Galchenyuk after the player was involved in a serious altercation with police officers.
During a traffic stop, the former Coyotes center is said to have threatened to kill the officers at the scene, whilst other reports suggest he used racially insensitive language too.
Arizona Sports posted a report with details from the Scottsdale Police Department‘s own filings, and the incident occurred on July 9.
A BMW with two male occupants jumped a curb and hit a sign, only to be then followed towards a car park.
This is where the story becomes more bizarre, the two men in the car then got out and lay down next to the vehicle. It’s unclear at this time just what they were doing at this moment. The two men would return to the car and begin driving again.
Galchenyuk attempted to reach for something under his seat
It was at this moment that the situation turned nasty as Galchenyuk exited the vehicle when he was pulled over, he immediately began threatening the officer on the scene.
“You see my eyes, right? You understand I will chop all you,” he stated.
“I’m gonna chop you, your wife, your daughter.
“One phone call and you’re dead, your whole family, your blood line.”
Galchenyuk was then seen trying to reach for something under his seat which forced the officers into action, he was thrown to the ground and restrained, all whilst the Russian used racial slurs towards the officers.
The offences listed on Galchenyuk‘s police report are incredibly serious and it came as no surprise that his former team acted as quickly as possible.
He was released on Friday and the team released a statement condemning his behavior.
“We are aware of the incident involving Alex Galchenyuk and strongly condemn this type of behavior. Once the club was made aware of the allegations, we immediately began the process of terminating his Player’s Contract,” the statement read.
