On June 10th, Alex Rins fell badly in the Italian GP sprint at the fast Arrabbiata 1 (Turn 8 of the Mugello Circuit) and fractured his tibia and fibula in his right leg. A first operation was performed that same evening at the Careggi Clinic in Florence. An external fixator was attached because the swelling had to go down first.

Two days later, the LCR Honda pilot was transportable and flown to Madrid, where he underwent a second leg operation at the Ruber Clinic last Thursday. The doctors removed the external fixator and stabilized the fractures internally with plates and screws.

Today, Tuesday, Rins happily reported on his social networks: “16 days and two operations later, we’re going home!”

In addition, the 27-year-old Spaniard, who lives in Andorra, published some photos that document his ordeal. “These pictures show the extent of the fall and the great work of the doctors. It was tough, but I’ll come back stronger physically and mentally,” the Austin winner promised. “Thank you everyone for the messages and for taking care of me these days.”

Rins also dedicated his own contribution to the treating physicians: “Many, many thanks to Dr. Vila, Dr. Gomez Arrayas and Dr. Sangiovanni and their teams for their help and work over the past few weeks. It’s going home!”
