Alexander Isak, 24, has struck again.

Two new goals means that he erases Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Swedish goal record in the Premier League.

– I wanted a hat-trick, says Isak afterwards.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored 17 goals for Manchester United in the 2016/17 season.

Most ever by a Swede in the Premier League.

Until now.

Because in the 26th minute of Saturday’s home meeting with fellow Sheffield United, Alexander Isak struck again – with what was his 18th PL goal of the season.

That goal meant 1-1.

Two-goal scorer

In the 54th minute Bruno Guimarães made it 2-1 to Newcastle and in the 61st it was time for Alexander Isak again – this time from the penalty spot to make it 3-1.

– When we get penalties, I just try to stay calm and focus. I have good confidence, says Isak, who has scored nine out of nine penalties this season, in Viaplay.

Chasing European place

Newcastle eventually won 5–1.

The penultimate goal was an own goal and the last was scored by Isak’s attacking colleague Callum Wilson.

Isak was close to a hat-trick, but had to settle for two complete hits.

– I wanted a hat-trick. I have scored two goals many times, but still waiting for a hat-trick…, he says.

The victory moves Newcastle closer to Manchester United in sixth place in the table.

One point separates the teams.

– The hunt for Europe is alive! We have to focus on ourselves and win our matches, then we have to hope that other results go our way, says Isak.

Sheffield United, in turn, are ready for relegation to the Championship.
