Alexis Pazoumian: Exploring the World Through Photography and Film

From the first photographic emotions to the most recent favorites, the authors published on the pages of Fisheye return to the works and subjects that particularly inspire them. Today, Alexis Pazoumian shares pieces of his world made of great trips around the world and inspiring encounters.

If you had to choose just one of your images, which one would it be?

Chouchi’s tank in my series Black Garden (to which we devoted a Focus episode, editor’s note) is the image which, in my opinion, best represents this series on the memory of Nagorno-Karabakh, an Armenian region recently invaded by Azerbaijan.

The first photograph that struck you and why?

I don’t have a particular photograph, but rather a photographer who had a big impact on me when I started: Miroslav Tichy, an extremely poor old man who made his own cameras. Although he came to prominence much later and was exhibited all over the world, his photographic practice was pure and did not need recognition.

A dream shoot?

The filming of my first feature film, I hope, within a gypsy community in the south of France and which will be the sequel to my short film entitled Velvet.
