Alice 3 Basically Canceled – American McGee Retires From Gaming – Alice: Asylum

It’s been almost six years since American McGee said he wants to make a third game in the Alice series, and more than four since he shared some information regarding the game called Alice: Asylum, so some of you might have hoping to see something significant from this very soon. Well, I have important news, but it’s not good.

McGee has some disappointing news on his Patreon as his latest post reveals that Electronic Arts has decided not to fund the production of Alice: Asylum. The giant publisher doesn’t want to sell him the license either, meaning plans for a third Alice game are dead. To quote McGee:

“We have exhausted all options to develop a new Alice game. With these responses from EA, there is no other way forward for the project. As such, we will be hibernating this Patreon page and associated pre-production activities The content remains, but we will no longer offer options for funding Alice: Asylum efforts through this (or any other) platform.

That was obviously a hard blow for him and the team, which is arguably one of the reasons why he takes this opportunity to announce that he’s at least taking a long break from the gaming industry – even making it sound like retirement. Even if EA decides to make a third Alice game, McGee says he has absolutely no desire to be involved. An interesting statement as it would be very surprising if EA didn’t make a new Alice game when the TV series is aired.
