Are e-car drivers now stranded?
All Tesla charging stations in Germany are illegal
Tesla’s charging stations are operating illegally in Germany, writes the Handelsblatt. Customers cannot rely on being billed for the exact amount of electricity.
Tesla’s superchargers are eye-catchers at every rest stop. In Germany there are more than 1800 such charging stations for electric cars – all are illegal, as reported by the “Handelsblatt”.
According to the newspaper, which is investigating the “ICT for Electromobility” funding project, the electric tanks do not comply with German calibration law. Because there is no meter that precisely measures the charged current.
Conversion will take a while
It is said that customers cannot rely on being billed for the exact amount of electricity. According to calibration law, the meter is required for precise billing.
The authorities are aware of the illegal charging stations – and apparently don’t care, as the “Handelsblatt” quotes those responsible.
The charging stations are now to be retrofitted with a meter, but that will take time. “It is to be expected that the process of retrofitting the fast-charging infrastructure will drag on until the end of 2023,” says Katharina Boesche from Information and Communications Technology (IKT) at the newspaper.
Until then, Tesla drivers can continue to charge without any problems. (euros)
