A man who was destined for Panama, where, according to his version, he would travel as a missionary to do charity work, was captured this Tuesday, February 27, at the La Aurora International Airport, after it was discovered that he was transporting a large sum. unreported.
According to the report of the General Subdirectorate of Anti-Drug Information Analysis (SGAIA) of the National Civil Police (PNC), the capture occurred in the inspection room on the second floor of the air terminal.
This is Silvano “N”, 53 years old, who transported dollars, euros and quetzales. In total, the supposed missionary had Q277 thousand 85.98.
According to the details of the money provided by the PNC, the detainee had US$30,092 (about Q235,319.44), €3,980 (about Q33,721.54) and Q8,045.
According to the police report, the arrested person indicated that “he would travel (…) to the Republic of Panama, indicating that the reason for his trip was of a missionary nature and he was going to carry out works of charity, carrying a quantity of money that exceeded US$10 thousand, which was not declared in the respective ballot.”
Silvano was referred to a competent court and the money was confiscated as evidence, according to the PNC.
