Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi believes Pierre Gasly can take the team to the ‘next level’ in F1.
Frenchman Pierre Gasly joins the Alpine F1 Team from AlphaTauri, replacing two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso, who is moving to Aston Martin.
Alpine F1 Team has held off McLaren’s challenge to finish fourth in the constructors’ standings in 2022 despite a volatile duo of Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon and a number of reliability failures.
Pierre Gasly, meanwhile, will join the fray after a difficult year for AlphaTauri, who have dropped from sixth to ninth in the constructors’ standings.
When asked what he expected 2020 Italian Grand Prix winner Pierre Gasly to add to the team, Rossi said: “Hopefully he brings us what we need. I have,” he said.
“We have to continue to develop the car. At the moment we are still mostly in the midfield and we need to take the car up a notch.”
“To do that, we need a driver who can not only go fast with the potential the car gives us and score points, but also take the car to the next level.
“So you need to give feedback to the team and steer the whole team in the right direction so they can improve the car.”
“That’s what we want Pierre to bring. I think he was a technical leader in many ways at AlphaTauri.”
“I want him to keep it up, grow the team, grow with us and take us to new levels.”
