OnePlus Open at the best price?

The best folding smartphone in its category

Let’s say it straight away, the OnePlus Open has no faults, apart from a poor IPX4 certification and a protruding photo block. Beyond these slight inconveniences, the OnePlus Open appears to be the best folding device in Fold format, a beautiful beast, well finished and comfortable in the hand. Its teardrop hinge is particularly robust and its almost invisible fold teaches the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 a lesson. As for the internal screen, the Chinese manufacturer opts for an Amoled panel in 2440 x 2268 pixels with an adaptive refresh rate climbing up to 120 Hz, as for the external screen with also generous definition.

With its protruding photo block, the OnePlus Open sets the tone. It has a 48 Mpx (f/1.7) wide-angle main sensor, a 64 Mpx (f/2.6) x6 telephoto lens, a 48 Mpx (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle sensor and It is a 32 Mpx (f/2.4) front sensor that allows you to take selfies. This is a versatile and efficient configuration. The main sensor notably takes photos with accurate colorimetry (thanks to the partnership with Hasselblad) and controlled day and night. The telephoto lens is also a success with impeccable sharpness.

Autonomy that beats the competition

To power the monster, we can count on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supported by 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Despite this configuration, the OnePlus Open is a little behind according to our benchmarks, especially against the Galaxy Z Fold 5, its power having surely been limited in order to limit heating. But even if its GPU is behind the competition, the OnePlus Open managed to run Genshin Impact with graphics at max on its internal screen, and at 60 FPS! In addition, at no time did we feel the smartphone heat up in these conditions.

Finally, the OnePlus Open is the most durable folding smartphone we have ever seen. Usually, “Fold” smartphones are not autonomy champions because of the size of the display and the hinge which leaves little room to install a large battery. OnePlus got around the problem by installing two small batteries to reach a total capacity of 4,805 mAh, so the OnePlus Open is capable of lasting two days of normal use. Finally, its 67 W recharge allows it to go from 8% to 96% in 35 minutes. Breathtaking…
