Saudi Arabia’s media regulatory agency summoned officials from private broadcaster MBC. The agency referred them to relevant authorities for investigation after the television channel aired a report labeling leaders and commanders of resistance groups in the region as terrorists.

The General Authority for Media Regulation (GAMR) announced in a statement that it had summoned the managers of the Dubai-based channel. GAMR highlighted that the report violated the Kingdom’s media regulations and policies.

The commission emphasized that it continues to monitor the extent of the media’s commitment to the Kingdom’s media regulations and content controls and will not be lenient on any violations.

Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission has revoked the license of the Saudi-owned MBC television channel in the country and ordered the broadcaster to close its offices in Baghdad.

The decision followed an incident when between 400 and 500 people broke into the Saudi broadcaster’s Baghdad studio just after midnight Saturday (19/10). (Press TV/Z-2)
