Manaus – In Brazil there have been fires on a total area of 22.38 million hectares so far this year – that’s more than three times the area of Bavaria. According to a report by the MapBiomas initiative, this corresponds to an increase of 150 percent in the comparable period from January to September in 2023. The network consists of universities, non-governmental organizations and technology companies and, among other things, examines satellite images.
