Amazon plans to lay off 10,000 employees

Amazon is said to be preparing the most massive job cuts in its history. This is reported by the New York Times, which refers to people familiar with the matter. According to these sources, the company plans to lay off 10,000 employees in the near future. A figure that represents 3% of Amazon’s permanent employees and less than 1% of the group’s global workforce, which has around 1.5 million employees taking into account employees paid by the hour).

According to the sources cited by the New York Times, most of the positions should be deleted in the branch of devices and concern, among other things, the voice assistant Alexa developed by Amazon. Further cuts are expected to take place in the retail division and in the human resources sector.

For now, Amazon has not made any official statement. In a blog post, however, the company already announced a hiring freeze in early November 2022. Amazon isn’t the only tech giant to massively cut jobs. In addition to the Twitter layoffs, Facebook’s parent company Meta recently cut 11,000 jobs.
