AMD boosts Radeon Pro OpenGL performance by up to 115% with a single driver update

GPU manufacturers, AMD, Intel and NVIDIA, are mainly focused on the current DirectX 12 and Vulkan APIs. However, last summer AMD significantly “pumped” the capabilities of Radeon RX gaming video cards when working with OpenGL. Now the turn has come for professional Radeon Pros – with the help of the new driver, they were provided with a significant acceleration in OpenGL applications.

Recall that in July, AMD released the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver for supported gaming graphics cards Radeon, in which, among other things, it seriously improved performance in OpenGL games. In particular, Minecraft with the new driver version runs up to 79% faster on the Radeon RX 6950 XT and up to 75% faster on the Radeon RX 6400 at 4K resolution and Fabulous image quality settings.

Now the AMD Software: PRO Edition 22.Q3 driver for Radeon Pro video cards, designed primarily for working with 3D graphics, has been released, which also greatly improves their performance in OpenGL. In particular, the Radeon Pro W6800 graphics card with the new software performs rendering in Solidworks faster by 28 and 52%, respectively, at 1080p and 4K resolutions. In Autodesk Maya, the increase in the same resolutions is 72% and 34%, respectively. And the most impressive increase – immediately by 115% – was noted by the Radeon Pro W6400 in Solidwoks in 4K.

AMD also said that the new driver helped its video cards, in particular the Radeon Pro W6800, W6600 and W6400, outperform their direct competitors from NVIDIA – the RTX A5000, A2000 and T600, respectively. At the same time, AMD did not share any data on how the driver improved older video cards, but they clearly have an increase.

Note that in addition to desktop video cards, the new driver is also compatible with mobile professional accelerators, which are used in various laptops from Dell, HP, Lenovo and Panasonic. You can download the new driver for Radeon Pro video cards hereas well as familiarize yourself with other test results.
