AMD improves performance of some DirectX 11 games by up to 30% with new driver

AMD has released a preview version of the May graphics driver AMD Software Preview Driver May 2022. The manufacturer notes that the new version of the software provides a significant increase in performance in some games with DirectX 11, and also contains updates and additional settings for Radeon Super Resolution 1.1 (RSR) scaling technology.

In particular, the company announces on its official blog about the appearance of the “Sharp Effect” slider in the Radeon Super Resolution 1.1 settings in the May AMD Software Preview Driver. It allows you to more accurately select the desired parameters of the RSR scaling technology.

Recall that, unlike AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution scaling technology, RSR technology is implemented at the driver level and does not require the support of game developers for its implementation in games.

It also talks about a performance increase of up to 10% on average compared to the version released yesterday. AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.5.1 in some games using the DirectX 11 API on Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards. In some projects, the increase is even greater. For example, in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey it is up to 28%, in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands it is up to 30%, and in Grand Theft Auto V it is up to 11%. Also in the list of games that received an increase in speed, included:

  • Far Cry 5 – 4% increase;
  • Farming Simulator 22 – 3% increase;
  • Total War Saga: Troy – 17% increase;
  • Total War Hammer 3 – 5% increase;
  • Watch Dogs Legion – 10% increase;
  • The Witcher 3 – 3% increase;
  • Apex Legends – 5% increase;
  • Overwatch – 3% increase;
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – 3% increase;
  • Valorant – 7% increase.

Curiously, some games not listed have also received a performance boost. For example, Crysis Remastered runs up to 24% faster with the new driver version, according to performance monitoring software developer CapFrameX.
