AMD has unveiled the Radeon RX 9050 graphics card alongside a return of 4GB memory configurations. The new Navi 44-based hardware arrives amid an ongoing PC component crisis driven by the artificial intelligence sector, bringing budget-tier compromises that include a narrow 64-bit memory bus on its smallest variant.
The graphics card market is sliding backward. Just as consumers grapple with the high cost of memory across laptops and components, the landscape for desktop graphics cards is shifting toward tighter capacity constraints. AMD introduced the Radeon RX 9050 following leaks that surfaced across hardware platforms, marking the company’s first desktop graphics card release in nearly a full year according to reporting from Pcworld. While the higher-end components command attention with their performance claims, the introduction of ultra-low VRAM capacities highlights how component manufacturers are adapting to severe supply chain pressures.
ASRock Listings and the Return of 4GB VRAM Configurations
The existence of the 4GB variant came to light through product listings published by board partner ASRock. The specifications reveal a heavily trimmed GPU designed to hit low-end price points, though the configuration forces significant compromises on bandwidth and performance.

According to specifications from Wccftech, the RX 9050 features 16 compute units and 1,024 stream processors, cutting the shader count of a fully enabled Navi 44 die in half compared to higher models. The hardware operates with a base clock of 1,920 MHz and a boost clock reaching up to 2,600 MHz, while utilizing a 450W power supply recommendation.
The memory sub-system represents the most severe bottleneck. The 4GB model couples its meager frame buffer with a restricted 64-bit memory interface. That design halves the memory bandwidth to a paltry 144 GB/s, a stark contrast to the 128-bit bus and 288 GB/s bandwidth found on the 8GB variant detailed by Club386.

Consumers hoping to purchase the 4GB version as an individual upgrade will find themselves locked out of retail channels. Clarifying a discrepancy between official specifications and board partner pages, an AMD representative explained that the 4GB option is a system-only variant, not intended to be sold out of the pre-built system,

Pricing and regional availability vary sharply by memory tier. The 8GB model carries an introductory price of $279 USD. However, initial shipments are restricted to Latin American and Asia-Pacific markets, with broader international distribution plans left unannounced by the manufacturer.
Meanwhile, the 4GB version has already appeared in retail tracking. The Verge reported that Tom’s Hardware spotted the card in a Best Buy listing for an $889 prebuilt gaming PC paired with an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and 500GB of storage. ASRock’s regional product pages also noted that this model may not be sold worldwide,
