American rapper A$AP Rocky pleads not guilty

American rapper A$AP Rocky pleaded not guilty on Wednesday in a court in Los Angeles, California. He is charged for his role in a shooting last November.

The 33-year-old musician, charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon, was released on bail of 550,000 dollars (523,000 francs) and is due to appear in court once more on 2 november.

Rakim Mayers, real name, is suspected of pointing his gun at a former friend during an argument last November, then later shooting him twice, inflicting a ‘minor wound ‘ according to the police. The rapper denies these accusations.

The artist was arrested in April at Los Angeles airport, when he got off a private jet from Barbados, where his partner Rihanna is from and with whom he had a child in May.

Rihanna, the huge star behind the hits ‘Diamonds’ and ‘Umbrella’, is ‘the love of my life’ and ‘the only one’, the singer told GQ magazine in May 2021.

A$AP Rocky was sentenced in August 2019 to a suspended prison sentence for violence following a brawl in Stockholm.
