The Charlotte City Council approved a lease agreement Monday night allowing American Express to open a “Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge” at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), according to multiple reports.
The new lounge, described as a “speakeasy-style” space, will occupy 4,641 square feet in Concourse A as part of the airport’s ongoing expansion project. The agreement permits American Express to operate the lounge for the duration of the lease, as outlined in the City Council agenda.
American Express debuted the Sidecar concept recently at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The Sidecar format is designed for travelers with limited time, offering a restaurant-style experience where food and drinks are ordered via QR code and allowing eligible cardmembers access within 90 minutes of their flight’s departure. The lounges are intended to alleviate overcrowding at traditional Centurion Lounges.
According to an agenda for a Charlotte City Council Business Meeting held March 9th, the Sidecar lounge is included in the second phase of the Concourse A expansion. Joe Bruno, a reporter with WSOC-TV, tweeted about the pending vote on March 6th.
