Amnesty International: Saudi authorities use arbitrary travel bans

Posted in: 10/05/2022 – 14:53

A new campaign launched by “Amnesty International” calls on the Saudi authorities to lift travel restrictions imposed on activists and to stop prosecuting citizens for expressing opinions.

The organization said that the Saudi authorities use arbitrary travel bans as a tool to punish and control activists, writers and journalists by locking them inside the country, or in the case of those living abroad by preventing their families from traveling to them. Lynn Maalouf, Deputy Middle East and North Africa Director at Amnesty International, said: “The Saudi authorities’ arbitrary use of travel bans once morest activists and human rights defenders reflects a grim reality in the country, where dissenting voices continue to be silenced unabated, while The presidents are talking regarding gradual reform.”

To talk regarding the topic, Tariq Hamdan hosts Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Dubaisi, head of the European-Saudi Organization for Human Rights.
