This Tuesday, the Senate Constitution Commission approved an indication to change “amnesty” for “pardon” in the project referring to the political prisoners of the social outbreak.

This was referred to by the president-elect Gabriel Boric, who during his visit to the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM) recognized that the support of right-wing senators is needed for the initiative to move forward.

Let’s look for the best solution that manages to close the wounds. It can be the figure of amnesty, pardon, the important is that this unjust and extended prison to which so many people have been subjected, can finish, and let’s also think about how we seek that, in a different sense, the entrepreneurship and the SMEs that were affected in the context of the social outbreak, can also have a reparation process”, indicated the future head of state.

Boric assured that “the most important is that the victims of human rights violations have truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition by the State. I trust the criteria of the senators, hopefully it can be quickly dispatched to the chamber and we can reach an agreement so that it does not continue to be delayed”.

On the possibility that the amnesty include state agents, the front wing deputy avoided referring to “in favor of one or another mechanism. What matters to me is that this is resolved, we are working in that direction, permanently discussing it with family organizations, with senatorss”.

Finally, he assumed thatthe concurrence of senators from the right is required to obtain the votes. We have to reach an agreement. I hope that the senators have the unity of Chile in perspective, which is what we have to achieve for this to go ahead.”

It should be noted that Boric met this same day with the relatives of the political prisoners of the social outbreak, as well as with the president of the Supreme Court, Juan Eduardo Fuentes.
