The town of Les Sables d’Olonne (Vendée) is getting ready to live to the Polynesian rhythm. Indeed, this weekend will take place the Vendée Va’a, one of the most difficult Polynesian canoe races in the world. The Parade of Rowers
The first highlight of these four days of celebration will take place this Wednesday, May 17 in the city center, from the garden of freedom to the place du Tribunal with, on the program, the parade of all the rowers participating in the race, accompanied by the Polynesian dance troupes, all in rhythm to the sound of the tamuré.
A Polynesian village
To invite the general public to discover Polynesian culture, its riches and its ancestral know-how, the Vendée Va’a village located on the Promenade de l’Amiral Lafargue will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the event with an exceptional evening scheduled for May 19 until 11 p.m. About forty exhibitors will present their Polynesian products: crafts, jewelry, tattoos, gastronomy, textiles, engraving workshops, braiding workshops, ukulele discovery workshops, representations of associations, introduction to dance. As for the race, six starts and six finishes will take place on the beach at Les Sables d’Olonne (3 women’s races and 3 men’s races). As tradition dictates, a prayer will be performed before each race start, a prayer in which all the rowers and rowers will participate. A unique, atypical moment, symbol of an entire culture. Finally, at the end of each stage, the winners will be rewarded on the podium, installed on the Grande Plage, below Place Navarin. Passage of the canoes in the mythical channel of the Vendée Globe
