An ambulance driver attacked with a knife in Charleroi: “He is in shock”

Images that send shivers down your spine. An ambulance driver was attacked this Monday around 2:30 p.m. in Roux (Charleroi).

In the footage, an individual is seen pulling out a knife and attempting to stab a paramedic in the leg. The latter was not achieved. “The two suspects, a father and his son, were deprived of their liberty for assaulting an ambulance driver and obstructing traffic. The vehicle was seized. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has been informed of the facts“, explains the Charleroi police.

One of the suspects, the son, is a minor. The paramedic was injured by the blows but was not hit by the bladed weapon.

The facts occurred after a “fish tail”, according to the first elements.

I was parked right in the middle of the road with my blue lights on

The manager of the R-Médic company explains: “The ambulance wasn’t going fast enough for a motorist. He (the paramedic) has just been released from the hospital. He’s been out for three weeks. He wasn’t hit by the knife. He is sore all over. (…) I just got him online. He is fine but he is obviously in shock. His wife, who was driving the ambulance, is also shocked”, for her part specified the boss of the ambulance company.

It’s clearly an attempted murder.

Our editorial staff was able to reach Vincent, the assaulted paramedic. He tells us more about the circumstances:

“I had no way to park left or right. I was parked right in the middle of the road with my blue lights on. The vehicle came up behind me. He made it clear to me that I was in his way I was in the process of installing the patient in my vehicle. Then I got back behind the wheel, I had time to move forward three meters that they had passed me. They got in front of me, 4 flashing lights, to get me out of the vehicle.”

According to the paramedic, the man then pulled him from the cabin to bring him to the ground. “The rest of the story is that I was getting hit all over the place. I put myself in positions of safety in order to avoid taking blows on the vital organs. I had a knife in front of me. This is clearly attempted murder. I consider myself very lucky. Physically and psychologically, I’m down. “
