Nine days after an elderly woman was defrauded, who paid a large sum of money thinking a close friend needed surgery, the man she handed it to was spotted with all the money in her area Pieria.
On the afternoon of April 10, the elderly woman had received a phone call from a stranger who claimed that her friend had been injured and needed money for the surgery that had to be done immediately, while on the phone an accomplice could be heard pretending to be the injured woman. Thus, she was persuaded to give her savings of 4,990 euros, which was taken by a foreigner.
After investigations by the Katerini Security Police officers, the “collector” was located on Friday and in his possession was found the entire amount handed over to him by the elderly woman and returned to her. The case filed against him for fraud was submitted to the prosecutor of Protodiki Katerinis and he was released due to the lapse of the autoforos. The police investigation continues to identify his accomplices and to investigate any other similar incidents.
