An emergency Arab meeting on Wednesday to discuss action on the “genocide” of Gaza

Cairo – The Arab League announced that an emergency meeting will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, at its headquarters in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, at the level of permanent delegates to discuss “action regarding Israel’s commission of the crimes of genocide and starvation” in the Gaza Strip.

This came according to what was announced by Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, in a statement by the League reported by the Egyptian News Agency, on Tuesday, the day after Palestine submitted a request to hold that meeting for the same reason.

Zaki said: “It was decided that the Arab League Council will hold an extraordinary session tomorrow, Wednesday, at the level of permanent delegates, headed by Mauritania, the current president of the League Council.”

The special session will discuss “action regarding Israel’s commission of the crimes of genocide and starvation,” according to the same source.

Yesterday, Monday, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Arab League, Muhannad Al-Aklouk, announced in a statement that his country had requested an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council regarding the Israeli threats to invade the city of Rafah, and the continuation of “the policy of starvation committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.”

On March 15, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in a statement that the latter “approved plans for a military operation in Rafah, and the army is preparing to evacuate the population,” without specifying a time frame for the start of the military operation in the city. .

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a war on Gaza, leaving tens of thousands of civilian casualties, most of them children and women, and massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.

Israel continues this devastating war despite the issuance of a Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, as well as despite its first appearance before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”

Israel restricts the entry of aid by land into Gaza, which has led to a scarcity of food, medicine and fuel supplies and has created a famine that has begun to claim the lives of children and the elderly in the Strip, which is inhabited by about 2.3 million Palestinians, including about two million displaced as a result of the war, and which Israel has besieged for 17 years.
