An explosion in New York leaves one dead and partially demolishes a building

At least one person has died this Tuesday after an explosion in a building in the New York borough of the Bronx caused a major fire and the partial collapse of the apartment block. The city Police Department has confirmed the death of a 77-year-old woman, while two others, aged 68 and 82, are in stable condition, according to the NBC network. Likewise, the agency has detailed that five members of the Corps have suffered poisoning due to smoke inhalation, for which they have also been transferred to hospitals.

Eyewitnesses have detailed to the aforementioned chain that at least two have been heard explosions followed by flames and that, later, the ashes have begun to fall from the building. Initially it has been pointed out that the causes of the flames could be related to a gas leak, although the energy company responsible for supplying the building has acknowledged have no indication that this had happened.

This incident has taken place less than five kilometers from the area where, at the beginning of the month, another large fire broke out, claiming the lives of 17 people.
