news The digestive system plays a crucial role in our health. It doesn’t just break down and absorb nutrients. It does much more than that. A healthy gut has an impact on our immune system, our mental health, our mood, our weight, our skin… How is this possible? To find out, immerse yourself in the immersive and interactive exhibition “Inside your Digestion” located at number 49 avenue de la Toison d’Or. This pop-up museum is sponsored by Activia, known for its expertise in gut health.

It’s no secret that our health depends on a varied and balanced diet. Eating healthily provides our body with all the vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients it needs. But not only that… Our diet also influences our microbiota.

From mouth to colon

From the mouth to the colon, this is the immersive itinerary that the “Inside your Digestion” exhibition has in store for you. You will be able to follow the path your food takes on an unexpected journey inside your digestive tract. Each room will immerse you in an interactive experience where you will learn while having fun.

In particular, you will meet the micro-organisms that inhabit your insides. From the mouth to the colon, the digestive tract is colonized by billions of bacteria which constitute a unique ecosystem specific to each individual. A balanced microbiota is an intestine where good bacteria predominate over less friendly ones and coexist in symbiosis.

Discover the benefits of a healthy microbiota

The “Inside your Digestion” exhibition will allow you to understand the crucial role of the microbiota and its many health benefits. Did you know that good bacteria play an important role in preventing digestive problems (diarrhea, constipation), inflammatory bowel diseases (irritable bowel syndrome), food allergies/intolerances (lactose, gluten), infections such as gastroenteritis? Certain bacteria can also influence your blood pressure, immune system and mental health.

In the event of a disrupted microbiota (dysbiosis), the permeability of the intestinal mucosa is no longer optimal. Allergens, viruses and bacteria could pass more easily into the blood and affect our body in many ways: eczema, infections, allergies, depression…

Some tips for taking care of your intestinal health

The “Inside your digestion” exhibition will also look at good habits to adopt to take care of your intestines. Indeed, the composition of the microbiota can change over the course of your life. It is influenced by your diet, your lifestyle or certain medications.

If you have an unbalanced diet (excess salt, sugar or fat), there is a good chance that your microbiota is not very healthy. Taking an antibiotic can also weaken your microbiota. Just like a sedentary lifestyle. Fortunately, it is possible to improve your gut health. How ?

Eat healthily: a varied diet rich in fiber helps feed good bacteria. Fiber is found in vegetables, legumes, fruits, dried fruits and even whole grains. Eat fermented foods: fermented foods naturally contain good bacteria. This is the case for kefir, sauerkraut, pickles, sourdough and even miso. Yogurt ferments are also considered probiotics, when consumed in sufficient quantities. They facilitate the digestion of lactose in the product in people who have difficulty digesting it. Brands like Activia offer fermented yogurts naturally rich in probiotics. Stay hydrated enough: water carries nutrients through your body, eliminates waste and promotes transit. Exercise: studies have shown that physical exercise can influence the good health of the microbiota, enrich its diversity and rebalance possible dysbiosis. Treat chronic stress: chronic stress can modify the balance of your microbiota.
