An increase of 3.4% in Greece in March – 2024-04-19 18:20:34

The final inflation data for March in Greece and the Eurozone, published today 17 April 2024 by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), confirm the provisional data released earlier.

As was announced in its provisional announcement Eurostat on April 3, Greece’s March inflation rate accelerated from April to 3.4% from 3.1%.

General inflation in the country accelerated to 3.4% from 3.1% in the previous month, while the rate of increase in food prices to 4.8% from 5.8%.

It should be noted that Eurostat “measures” food prices in a common category with alcohol and tobacco, while the specific data exclusively for fresh food shows an increase in prices at a rate of 5.4% from 6.5%.

In industrial goods the rate accelerated slightly to 2.1% from 1.7% and the rate of decline in energy prices was limited to -1% from -2.8%. In addition, services accelerated to a rate of 4% from 3.5% in February, with Eurostat’s provisional estimate of 3.9% in March.

Finally, it is noted that structural inflation accelerated to 3.4% from 3% in February.

Inflation in the Eurozone

According to the newsit, in contrast to the Greek general index, the annual inflation of the eurozone stood at 2.4% in March 2024, from 2.6% in February.

Looking at the main components of eurozone inflation, services had the highest annual rate at 4%, flat from February, followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (2.7%, up from 3.9% in February ), non-energy industrial goods (1.1%, vs. 1.6% in February) and energy (-1.8%, vs. -3.7% in February).
