An unpublished book on free radios in the Catalan Country

Free radio stations marked the history of media at the end of the 20th century. Flamboyant and creative, musical, talkative or trendy, mythical, ridiculous, militant… from Perpignan to Font-Romeu, they unlocked the State’s monopoly on the airwaves, gave voice to the territory… These adventures were called Radio Rose, Stéréo 66, Fréquence Verte, Radio Pyrénées Catalanes, Radio Deux, Radio Midi Soleil or Radio Castillet: their period brought together 250 actors and more than 60 experiments, sometimes chased by the police.
The pirate radio stations “Radio par la Racine” (heard in Ille-sur-Têt in 1977) and “Radio 66” (hidden in a truck in Perpignan in 1978) opened the way to the explosion of the waves in 1981, but, ten years later, the country’s radio stations were replaced by Parisian networks and public service, following a general trend in France.
