Analysis of Recent Gaza Conflict: Lessons Learned and Future Strategies

Ismat Mansour, a friend of the leader of the Hamas movement in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, announced, saying, “If Sinwar had known the consequences of the attack, he would not have planned the October 7 operation in this way.” He continued, stressing that he did not expect the operation to complicate matters to this extent. Reducing risk.

A reader commented on this on the Al-Marsad website, saying: “From the first day it was clear that it was a disaster that should not have happened for many reasons. The most important of which is the balance of power and technological development in favor of the occupation.”

It is as if history is repeating itself. What Sinwar said today was said by Hassan Nasrallah in the 2006 war, when he said apologetically: “If I had known that this war would lead to the death of about a thousand Lebanese and the destruction of the south, I would not have undertaken it.” So what will Sinwar say now when his victims are nearly thirty? A thousand, and Gaza was almost completely destroyed?!

Although Nasrallah admitted his previous and documented mistake, he is now repeating the same disappointing mistake that he made in the Friday sermon the day before last. However, the international community is not convinced of his negative position, and is seeking to find a basis on which to build to reduce the escalation in the south, and launch negotiations or a movement. To avoid all-out war, the possibility of which France warned was very high.

Amos Hockstein, advisor to the US President, also confirmed that his country seeks to keep the conflict in southern Lebanon between Hezbollah and Israel at the lowest possible level, stressing the importance of the residents of southern towns returning to their homes.

That is why Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rai felt the extent of the danger to Lebanon, and in his speech he delivered an indirect message to Nasrallah, who announced that he was continuing his military operations. The most important thing Patriarch al-Rai said was that “heroism is in avoiding war, not in making it,” and he was true to his words.

The problem with Lebanon is that it has fallen into a trap that it does not know how to get out of, especially since it does not have a president of the republic, but only a caretaker prime minister, who does not know where he will come from or where?! The popular proverb applied to him: If you stand, the laurel will overwhelm you, and if you sit, fire will consume you!!

Therefore, this almost helpless government has no choice but to bet on American mediation and deal with it on the basis that it may provide Lebanon with a safe passage to safety.

However, the embarrassing and ridiculous question is: Will the American mediator be able to provide guarantees to Lebanon that Israel will not resort to expanding the war?!
