Analyzing Ryan Leonard: Is He the Next Tkachuk? || NHL Draft Analysis

BUFFALO | Ryan Leonard was raved about and compared to the Tkachuk brothers by Kent Hughes a few weeks ago during a press scrum.

By going with such an analogy, the GM of the Canadiens knew full well that he would ignite a relatively large fire among the supporters of his team.

Was this a way for him to muzzle everyone about his true draft intentions? Some think Hughes would never have praised Leonard that way if he really had the idea to draft him. This theory holds, but it is impossible to confirm anything for the moment.

In fact, yes. We can confirm that Ryan Leonard is a very interesting hockey player. Fast, reckless and with an excellent wrist throw, the youngster proved to be the perfect addition to the number one trio of the American development program. Alongside Will Smith and Gabriel Perreault, Leonard had 94 points, including 51 goals in 57 games.

But despite all his qualities, two questions come up particularly often when trying to guess the moment of the draft when he could hear his name.

1-Is he too predictable/limited in his way of creating attack? Does he have in him the resources to transpose his strong production in the NHL?

2-Are his numbers skewed by the fact that he was paired with two very talented players this year?

When we met at the Combine, I decided to test Leonard’s character by asking him these two questions directly.

As you’ll see in the main video, it passed the test with flying colors!
