“State reform would be a short-term solution for French-speaking entities. But we must not deceive ourselves… If the Flemings accept more reform, it is to obtain more autonomy. And who says more autonomy means less transfer, and therefore a Walloon Region which will do even worse on a budgetary level,” explains Étienne de Callataÿ. “It is not from an institutional reform that we should hope for an alleviation of Wallonia’s budgetary problems within 10 years. »
The key to a better economic world in Wallonia? “Better functioning of the world of work. » By punishing the unemployed in particular? Not necessarily. “Unfortunately, there is a focus of public and political debate on this issue when it is not what is most important.
