In recent days, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has released its results from operations carried out throughout 2023. In one of the numbers, the regulatory body blocked a total of 3,900 TV boxes, in 52 operations carried out since February.

The clandestine server addresses were used to pirate audiovisual content, using decoders in users’ homes. Anatel’s operations cover the three main technologies used for the illegal act.

“The operations of the SeAC Clandestine Decoders Combat Plan began before Carnival, affecting only one technology (used for piracy), and, currently, we block the three main technologies, sharing of the SeAC signal encryption key (Service Pay TV), pirated subscription and IPTV.”

Only on December 6th, Anatel carried out a joint operation with broadband operators and the Cyber Operations Laboratory of the Ministry of Justice. At the time, applications used for piracy and 1,200 illegal streaming sites were suspended during the last round of Series A of the Brazilian Championship.

The agency’s intention is to remove unapproved TV boxes from Brazilians’ homes. As they do not have technical assistance or data security guarantees, this equipment is more vulnerable to cyber attacks on the user’s network or that of telecommunications service providers.

According to the regulatory body, plans for 2024 consist of expanding blocking operations, strengthening the fight against piracy of audiovisual content in the country and expanding the fight against the trade and use of clandestine TV boxes.

It is worth remembering that Anatel had already announced last week that it had blocked 1,500 IPs in 29 operations carried out since February 2023.
