Spain – Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti complained about the busy football schedule, and insisted something had to change to protect the players.
The royal club, which beat Chelsea 2-0 back and forth in the quarter-finals of the Champions League competition, must play the first leg of the semi-finals three days after its match against Osasuna in the local cup final.
Ancelotti said during a press conference held on the eve of his team’s match against Celta Vigo, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, in the 30th stage of the Spanish League: “The match schedule is a schedule that we have said many times, in an objective way, that it is illogical.”
“It’s very crowded, there are a lot of matches. The Spanish League thinks of itself, the (Spanish) Federation thinks of itself, the European Union thinks of itself, the International Federation thinks of itself, and no one thinks of the players.
And he added, “This is not a good path for football. Something must be changed. There are a lot of matches.”
Despite the approaching date of facing Osasuna in the Spanish Cup final on May 6 and facing Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals on the 9th, Ancelotti said that he would not have to switch his team between matches.
The Italian coach stressed, “I think (I can use the same players), what must be changed is the routine that we follow after matches,” and “I am not worried about this.”
