And on the sidelines of the 2022 World Cup

“And on the sidelines of the 2022 World Cup”…

Why this section? Because there are many new products this fall, and you certainly expect to see them all on our mini site « World of cars » in which you traditionally find new models from all manufacturers.

However, several manufacturers having chosen not to be present at this edition of the Paris Motor Show 2022, a certain number of new products will not be exhibited at Porte de Versailles in Paris, and in particular the one presented in this article. In order to give you an exhaustive vision and meet your expectations, we have nevertheless chosen to publish them in the mini-site Caradisiac dedicated to the Paris Motor Showbut in a special section “And on the sidelines of the Mondial de l’Auto”.

Launched in 2007, the very first R8 finally positioned Audi in the segment of manufacturers of dream sports cars. Hailed for its punchy styling, excellent dynamic handling and engine character, this R8 can be enjoyed exclusively with the V10 since its second generation appeared in 2015. Like its cousin the Lamborghini Huracan, this R8 is currently living its last months of career: while the Italian should be replaced by a new model using a new hybrid supercharged V8 advanced technology, it is rumored that the next generation of the German will adopt a 100% electric powertrain. For both brands, it will therefore be necessary to say goodbye to the fabulous atmospheric V10 which currently remains one of the most beautiful engines on the market (along with the V12s from Ferrari and Lamborghini as well as the atmospheric flat-six from Porsche).

So at Audi, we allow ourselves a last last stand for the R8. Still currently offered in the catalog in its RWD Performance propulsion (570 horsepower and €160,250 in coupé) and Performance quattro (620 horsepower and €226,130 in coupé) versions, the beautiful sports car receives an unprecedented GT RWD variant with an extreme vocation. . The maximum power of its 5.2-litre V10 peaks as on the Performance quattro at 620 horsepower, with torque limited to 565 Nm (compared to 580 Nm on the Performance quattro). It differs from the rest of the range by its rather conspicuous body kit consisting of a large fixed rear wing but also small flaps at the front, rear spoilers and larger side skirts, in addition to fiber “sideblades”. exposed carbon unlike the painted parts of the normal R8 RWD. Thanks to new 20-inch rims, manually adjustable suspension and the presence of standard carbon-ceramic brakes, it gains 20 kg on the scale compared to the normal Audi R8 RWD Performance.

Nothing revolutionary therefore, even if the small dynamic novelties should benefit its effectiveness on the circuit. In addition to the adjustable suspensions, the R8 GT RWD receives optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slick profile. The car also features a front anti-roll bar made of lightweight CFRP materials and an improved dual-clutch automatic gearbox with faster shift times. The 0 to 100 km/h is dispatched in 3.4 seconds, the 0 to 200 km/h in 10.1 seconds and the top speed reaches 320 km/h.

€245,000 and 26 copies for France

Audi already specifies the French price of the beast, which will be negotiated in France from €245,000. The German manufacturer plans a total of 333 copies worldwide, just like for the GT version of the first generation R8 (and the Audi A1 quattro). Only 26 of these 333 copies will supply the French market. If the German brand does as for the previous version, a convertible version of this R8 GT RWD should follow within a few months. Then the R8 will go out for good at the end of 2023, taking with it the fabulous V10 that has made us shiver so much since 2007.

Caradisiac, partner of the Paris Motor Show

As in 2018, Caradisiac is once again a partner in 2022 of the Mondial de l’Auto which will take place in Paris from October 17 to 23. The Caradisiac editorial team will thus be relocated to its own stand for the duration of the show to analyze, dissect, photograph and film all the new models. And this will of course also be an opportunity for you to come, as you are used to, to meet our journalists. Which new or used car to buy? They will answer all your questions. Until then, we will give you on Caradisiac all the information that we could have obtained from the manufacturers on their new models.
