Andy Fletcher, founding member of the British group Depeche Mode, died at the age of 60, the group announced Thursday, “shocked” by this “premature” departure.
“We are shocked and filled with immense sadness at the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member and band member,” said the band, which formed in 1980 in Basildon, some 40 miles away. east of London.
Born in July 1961 in Nottingham, Andrew Fletcher, nicknamed “Fletch” was one of the band’s keyboardists.
“Fletch had a real heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh or a cold pint,” Depeche Mode said in a statement.
“Our hearts go out to his family,” added the group asking to “respect their privacy at this difficult time.”
Andy Fletcher leaves behind Grainne, his wife of 30 years, and two children, Megan and Joe.
