Imagine stepping into your shop and being greeted by Angelina Jolie! That’s exactly what happened at nero Belgian Waffle Bar on Monday, January 27th.
Eilnaz Taagholi, Nero’s owner and co-founder, shared with us teh amazing story. “Who would expect Angelina Jolie to stroll into our shop?” he exclaimed.
The Oscar-winning star, best known for roles in films like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Maleficent, casually walked into the South Granville location, wich only opened its doors in August 2022.Jolie, accompanied by her driver, was looking for a sweet treat and ordered an original Liège waffle and an oat cappuccino.
Her treat didn’t end there. She also purchased a box of seven waffles to go, including the customer favorite custard-filled waffle.
“Over the past 13 years, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming some well-known faces to our three locations, but having Angelina stop by our newest Granville location was an unusual surprise,” Taagholi said. he added, “I actually hope she will be back for more this week.”
Describe Jolie as humble and sweet, taagholi said she took an interest in the waffle-making process.
“Seeing her appreciate what we’re so passionate about was an incredible honor,” he shared.
This wasn’t Jolie’s first visit to Vancouver. She graced the city with her presence at the United Nations Peacekeeping Defense Ministerial conference in November 2017, delivering a powerful keynote speech. Additionally, Vancouver served as a backdrop for some of her most notable films, including Changeling (2008) and Life or Something Like It (2002).

Archyde: Eilnaz, tell us about the day Angelina Jolie walked into your shop.
eilnaz Taagholi: It was incredible! We opened our South Granville location last August, and while we’ve welcomed many celebrities over the years, having Angelina Jolie walk in was truly a special moment. She arrived with her driver, just looking for a sweet treat. she ordered an original Liège waffle and an oat cappuccino – a classic combination!

Eilnaz Taagholi: She did! She even got a box of seven, including our customer favorite – the custard-filled waffle. It’s clear she knows good dessert when she sees it!

Eilnaz Taagholi: It’s a great city with a lot to offer. It has a vibrant film industry, a stunning natural beauty, and a welcoming community.It’s understandable why someone like Angelina Jolie would be drawn to it.
