Good bands are often interested bands, i.e. bands that look around and see what is happening not only in their own head and studio, but also elsewhere. They drive to the then newly opened location Vienna Metastadt to see The 1975 live. Who perform themselves at Rock im Dorf in Kirchdorf, Upper Austria, and then continue partying with the people. Who celebrate those with whom they shared the stage, in this case almost exclusively very good homegrown acts. So colleagues.

Setting trends: ANGER visiting the FM4 Studio
ANGER is such a highly open-minded and therefore very likeable band. Nora Pider and Julian Angerer, you can sit down with them somewhere above the rooftops of Barcelona and have a cold drink. That’s what happened before, and it was very nice: last summer, ANGER performed not once, not twice, but even three times at the Primavera Sound Festival, right there on the beach in Barcelona, and of course an FM4 interview was also possible . That’s also why we can rave about the performances there, and above all about one. When Kevin Parker and his top band Tame Impala cover the at least former top band The Strokes – because they had to cancel shortly before for known reasons – and “Last Nite” spills over the level in a new glitter coat, everything is actually good for a moment.
The Strokes are old heroes of Nora and Julian because they “just don’t give a shit”, and why shouldn’t that be the best reason of all today. These are the people who accept a Grammy via the video wall – ripped-out studio, ripped-out T-shirts and hopefully fresh canned beer included. What will ANGER toast to when they win their first Grammy? “With everything!” they laugh, the two of them, who guide us through their list of favorite songs so enthusiastically. After all, they have practiced well, the FM4 Award has been on the shelf at home since 2020.

So what else is on the wish list? Sharing the studio with Rosalía would be one thing, writing “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush herself would be another. Because during lockdown times, Nora and Julian watched all seasons of the series “OC, California” again, there is this one, worst scene, a main character dies, and the song that goes with it is amazing. The song is called “Running Up That Hill”, sung in this case by Brian Molko. Placebo also have their cover experiences and especially this one very well. “That’s actually how we discovered the song, and now, with ‘Stranger Things,’ we’re doing it again.”
When they are not discovering, adoring the aforementioned Matty Healy as well as FKA Twigs or touring with Roy Bianco and the Abbrunzati Boys, ANGER are currently writing their new, second album. Unsolicited, or if so, then at most secretly, Nora has designed the best of all promotional slogans: “We are simply the pop duo from the Alps.” How else should one pay homage to this backdrop, in autumn we will find out how sounds.
