Angola and Gabon signed, this Thursday, in Libreville, the Gabonese capital, two instruments to reinforce cooperation and ties between the two countries, within the framework of the visit of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
It is a memorandum that allows for bilateral political consultations and an agreement to overcome visas in service and diplomatic passports.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté António, who was speaking to the press, the first instrument is a framework agreement covering all domains, which will pave the way for strengthening cooperation in the most varied sectors.
Teté António stressed that during the talks the two presidents exchanged impressions and experiences in the economic field, regional and global issues.
According to the minister, Gabon also wants to take advantage of Angola’s experience in oil exploration, including refining and management.
The minister also added that during the meeting, João Lourenço and Ali Bongo addressed the conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and pacification in the Great Lakes Region.
“As we are committed to resolving the conflict in the region and Gabon, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the two heads of state addressed the issue of prevailing in the Great Lakes,” he said.
This Thursday, the Angolan Head of State visited Gabon for a few hours at the invitation of his counterpart Ali Bongo.
Cooperation between Angola and Gabon focuses on the sectors of Agriculture, Oil and Mines, Maritime Transport, Industry, Commerce, Education and Culture, Health, Youth and Sports.
The basis of this partnership is the General Cooperation Agreement. The two countries established the Joint Bilateral Commission in January 1982, in Libreville.
