At least two people died and more than 300 had to be evacuated in the Angra dos Reis regionin the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, due to intense rains, which have caused flooding, local authorities reported today.
The two deceased are two elderly people who were in a residence affected by the floods, according to municipal sources cited by the newspaper Folha.
Some of the residents of the central area of Angra dos Reis “they were not able to reach the second floor to protect themselves from the water”they specified from the Prefecture.
““The probable cause of death is drowning.”said the authorities, who reported that another 25 people had to be transferred due to the emergency.
The Prefecture of Rio de Janeiro reported that had to evacuate 312 inhabitants to temporary reception centers in the city, while in the streets teams work with machinery to clean and unclog the sewage network.
For its part, Brazil’s National Institute of Meteorology warned that the rains will continue over the next few days.
