An electronic tag isn’t much bigger than a bulky wristwatch. It is worn unobtrusively over the ankle – and allows freedom. The freedom not to go to prison or to be able to leave prison early despite a sentence. It is created for convicts in order to be able to monitor them electronically while they are under “house arrest”. Significantly more people will soon be given the chance of an ankle bracelet than before – and thus avoid imprisonment. Is this a good idea? What are the pros and cons?
