Annex C: Paraguay will aim to multiply added value to its energy through industrialization

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, stated that in the negotiation process of Annex C of the Itaipu Binational treaty, which should conclude this year, Paraguay aims to use its energy locally and give it added value through industrialization.

After reaching a historic agreement that increases the tariff value of the energy generated and Itaipu Binacional by 19.28 Kw/month until 2026, which will give Paraguay annual income of 1,250 million dollars, the Government is already facing the negotiation of the Annex C of the treaty.

The commitment assumed in the recent agreement with Brazil is to conclude negotiations on Annex C this year, the Executive announced.

“When we begin to negotiate Annex C, the idea is to consume energy locally, because by consuming and industrializing that energy that rate is multiplied by five or six,” Minister Giménez said. “That is the added value that occurs when energy is used for industrialization,” he added.

He indicated that this vision aims to generate industries throughout the territory, including the Paraguayan Chaco, so that the factories accompany the development of regions such as the Bioceanic Corridor, which is about to be inaugurated, or the extensive Paraguay-Paraná waterway.

“In these three years we have to prepare and attract industries, generate jobs, and generate opportunities and well-being for all Paraguayans,” said the minister.

He recognized that to industrialize the country we first have to put ANDE in a position to serve every corner of the country and that a large part of the additional resources that the binational will have from the agreement reached with Brazil will be allocated to that.

«The idea is that from 2027 Paraguay will have the capacity to consume its part of the energy generated in Itaipu, regardless of the price of the tariff that is established from that year onwards, because by giving added value that tariff is multiplied by five or for six. By no longer exporting that energy and transforming it into finished products, which is the idea to industrialize Paraguay,” the minister had said the day before during the press conference where the scope of the agreement was explained.
