Another dream weekend for Lorenzo Heredia in Europe

“Before my stay here ends, I’m sure I’m going to win a race,” Lorenzo Heredia told Río Negro. On Saturday, the young cyclist from Roca won the 100 km of Kooigem Koers juniors, in Belgium and this Sunday he confirmed his dream weekend by finishing second in the 90 km. of Roeselare.

At just 17 years old, Lolo Heredia more than meets the expectations with which he arrived in Belgium, the cradle of world cycling, last March to take part in the JAVA-Start Junior Team, the organization led by Mauricio Frazer and Mario Patalagoytiawhich attracts young talent from Latin America so that they can develop their potential in Europe.

«With about 2 km to go, I see that the peloton slows down and I said, this is my chance. So I started with a sprint from start to finish… I couldn’t believe what was happening was true, I imagined that there was one lap to go and when I saw the finish line and that there were many people at the finish line waiting for the peloton, I didn’t know how to react to the greatest satisfaction of my life.” Lolo told his networks about how the final meters of the arrival were in his first European victory.

In a race that had 127 cyclists, Lolo surpassed the Belgian Niel Meulemans and the Australian Jamie Coles. In fourth place came the Uruguayan Ciro Pérez, Heredia’s teammate.

15 days ago, Lorenzo had stayed with second place in the Grote Prijs Frank de Sy, in Evergem, a result that he repeated the following day in the Grote Prijs Vaburama race, in Kruishoutem. This had been her most productive weekend so far. Of course, Heredia’s potential always gives rise to more.

To his victory this Saturday, he added a new second place today for a race that almost got complicated at the end. 200 meters from the finish, there was a fall that he knew how to dodge to reach the finish line safely. “I don’t know how I did to ride, nor do I know where I went,” said Lorenzo about the rough end of the test that was won by Oskar Kuut, from Estonia. In third place came the Belgian Milan Verschaeve.

The Tour De L’Eure Juniors is coming next weekenda race organized by Cyclisme-Assistance, from May 27 to 29, 2023 in 4 stages including a team time trial.

The JAVA-Start Junior Team will be part of the test and will be represented by Lolo Heredia and Máximo Gómez Ortuño, from ArgentinaFelipe Reyes and Ciro Perez, from Uruguay, and Jonathan Morales, from Mexico.
