In order to bring together some of their activities for the benefit of better health protection for humans, animals and the environment, the two agencies have decided to bring together the Lyon laboratory of the ANSES and part of the ANSM controls department. At the end of the architectural competition, the project from the Pargade Architectes firm was unanimously selected by the jury. Work is scheduled to start in 2022, for delivery in 2024. The two agencies will benefit from advanced laboratories and a molecular biology platform in this new 8,300 m2 building, where cutting-edge equipment and technologies genome sequencing, can be shared. Located in the heart of the Lyon-Gerland Biodistrict, a district bringing together numerous public and private players in health and life sciences, the new building will be built on a plot owned by the city of Lyon and occupied by the Lyon laboratory of the Coves, whose buildings will be dismantled.

For this project, the total cost of which is estimated at 32.5 million euros, ANSES and ANSM received a grant of 12 million euros from the Lyon metropolis. The city of Lyon, attached to the One Health approach which underlies this project to bring together ANSES and ANSM, is supporting it financially to the tune of 2 million euros excluding tax, for the demolition of the building and decontamination of the eastern part of the site. The two agencies share the rest of the cost equally. Move-in is planned for summer 2024.

Teams with complementary skills serving a single health

Within their new joint location, ANSES and ANSM will be able to share their strategic thoughts and pool their equipment in a transversal approach encompassing human health, animal health and well-being and the protection of the environment. environment.

The teams from the ANSES Lyon laboratory are internationally recognized for their work on the fight against antibiotic resistance and the health risks linked to emerging animal pathologies such as mycoplasma or prion diseases, potentially transmissible to humans. , and epidemiological surveillance of animal and plant diseases, as well as the safety of the food chain. The laboratory also studies the risks of resistance of pests and plant pathogens to pesticides, as well as the effects of these products on the development of human neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Parkinson’s disease.

The ANSM teams who will join the building are currently based in Lyon and Saint-Denis (Ile-de-France). The Lyon team, specialized in controlling the quality and safety of vaccines, is the European leader in the vaccine batch release process, while the Parisian teams monitor the quality and safety of vaccines. blood-derived medicines, also subject to the same batch release process, according to the European Directive in force, and market surveillance of innovative biotechnological medicines
