Ant Invasion Forces Beach Closure on France’s Atlantic Coast

Actually, the best conditions for a relaxed bathing day prevail on France’s Atlantic coast with high temperatures. But instead of sunbathing on the beach, tourists there recently had to deal with flying ants. Because these are not only annoying, but also sting!

As a result, many tourists fled, as “Le Parisien” reports. The authorities also reacted: on Thursday, the coastal town of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez announced that all beaches would be temporarily closed to be on the safe side. Several neighboring towns also closed their beaches due to the ant invasion.

Like Switzerland, France was recently hit by a severe heat wave. In southern France, the thermometer even climbed over 40 degrees. The high temperatures and the strong storms that followed might have called the flying ants into action.

The warning in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez has since been lifted. It is questionable whether the tourists will return to the beaches so quickly. Because in the next few days there will be more rain than sun in the region.
