Antauro Humala was sentenced to 19 years in prison for the ‘andahuaylazo’. The ethnocacerista leader was sentenced in 2009 for the crimes of simple homicide, kidnapping, aggravated damage, theft or seizure of a firearm, and rebellion. However, on July 8, 2022, Humala requested his release for redemption of the sentence for work and education. After that, the Penitentiary Technical Council of the Ancón II prison decided to release him for serving his sentence. With this decision, he was allowed to redeem his sentence in 1 year and 7 months. For this reason, on August 20, 2022, he was released. That day, far from showing regret, Humala told the press that he felt “proud” of what happened in Andahuaylas more than 15 years ago, when he took over a police station and caused the death of four policemen.
