Created in 2004 to provide an editorial space for short stories, Antidata has reached its cruising speed by offering 2 to 3 collections per year for almost 20 years. The publishing house’s catalog today stands at 45 literary works still honoring the short format.

A genre deemed unsaleable

“Our goal is to give visibility to the news and allow their authors to be published, this is not always easy for themexpose Olivier Salaünone of the creators of Antidata, We are doing useful work because the news in France is deemed unsaleable.”

Even if there has been a distribution of sales since the end of the 2010s leading him to revise his first print runs downwards by a third, Olivier remains optimistic: “This year, we were overheating.” The ambition of his small publishing house: to become a reference in short stories for fans of this lesser-known and published style of literary works.

An online start

The origin of Antidata actually begins before 2004, Olivier Salaün was working at the time in Paris for the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BNF) and decided to launch an online magazine with friends, in the 90s, at the beginning of ‘Internet.

A reading on screen preferable if it is shortened: a ready-made editorial line for the next 20 years. Indeed, this magazine between friends moved from the web to paper in 2004, the Antidata publishing house was born with this appetite for short formats and short stories. Among his first successes, we find There is a hole in your CV, written by Olivier Salaün himself.

On the fringes of the market

Two decades later, little has changed, Olivier continues to read news and work for the BNF. Antidata has not changed in size; today, it lives on the fringes of the market and enjoys great independence. “As a very small economy, we do not have commercial objectives, not the same constraints, not the same struggles and we exist without subsidies,” proudly presents the editor. His passion for literature is very demanding on a daily basis. “We receive 5 to 6 manuscripts per day. For collective collections, calls for texts bring together around 150 projects to keep only 15 at the end.

For Antidata, success is also symbolized by the signing of in-house authors to a larger publisher. This was the case of Gilles Marchand with Waiting for a favorable responseor of Benjamin Planchon pour Capsules. The two authors are also present in collective collections, recurring within the Antidata catalog, such as Stand-byreleased on August 27, 2023.
