2023-12-06 12:03:27

The “Antonio Guiteras” thermoelectric plant in Matanzas, the largest in Cuba, will have to stop its operation for a few days to make some “corrections,” as announced by its directors. Not more than a month ago it was also under repairs and paralyzed for some time.

This measure will be taken following unit 1 of Felton, in Holguín, which is under repair, is connected to the national electroenergy system (SEN).

Engineer Román Pérez Castañeda, technical director of the Matanzas plant, said to journalist José Miguel Solís, from Radio Rebelde, that the “scheduled stop” of the “Antonio Guiteras” should not last more than 72 hours and will depend on the situation of the SEN.

“The goal is to ensure that the power plant can operate without problems at the end of this year and the beginning of next year,” Pérez said.

In addition, he reported that capital maintenance of the thermoelectric plant will be carried out by October 2024, which will involve a million-dollar investment and deep intervention in the boiler and other components.

With this, it is expected that the plant can generate regarding 280 megawatts with low fuel consumption for 90 days in a row. This speaks clearly that Cubans will continue to endure blackouts also next year 2024.

Currently, in Cuba, unit 1 of the CTE Santa Cruz, unit 3 of the CTE Rente and unit 2 of the CTE Felton are out of service due to a breakdown. Unit 5 of the CTE Mariel, the 3 units of Energas Varadero and unit 1 of the CTE Felton are under maintenance.

In addition, 31 plants are not operating due to lack of fuel and there are another 15 Cuban plants with low liquid coverage.

In the last report from the Electric Company, on December 5, a nighttime deficit of 327 MW was forecast in the country, with repeated power outages.
